about the gazette
The gazette is the registry's primary internal publication. Its issues are numbered consecutively from a single series begun in the spring of 1989; no issue has ever been retracted or re-numbered. Subscribers in the formal sense receive a printed copy of each circulated issue by post; the public mirror carries the same text, less the printer's furniture and the subscriber colophon.
Where a bulletin amends earlier registry practice, the amendment takes effect on the date of issue and is binding from that date. The cataloguing rules and the methodology document are the consolidated record of registry practice; the gazette is the running record of how that practice was arrived at.
